Finally, summer is here! It's been a long and extremely cold winter, so I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the soccer season. Due to a lack of interest again, there will be no baseball program. However, if there is an interest in baseball next season, we will be happy to run the program again.
During the winter months, your Quinndale Community Council was active in preparing what hopefully will be a very entertaining and enjoyable summer sports program. This summer, we have 22 teams for soccer. There are approximately 330 children ages 5 - 14 and 48 dedicated coaches. Volunteers make this program happen for the children. At this time, I would like to introduce and thank each member of the Executive for volunteering their time and effort in the interest of the children: I would also like to thank each and every coach and assistant coach for offering their time, patience, persistance and knowledge.
Candy Shack - Snack Bar
The Snack Bar has been such a big hit not only with the kids, but with the adults as well. We have a few regular volunteers. It's not too late, if you would like to volunteer in the snack bar just fill your name in on our calendar found in the snack bar. Remember, the more volunteers to work the snack bar, the less hours you will be required to put in. Let's get some new faces on board. Because there will be no baseball program again this season, the soccer candy shed will be the only shed operating again this season. The snack bar will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday each week and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday each week during June, July, and August, as long as there is a volunteer to run the shed. If you can spare a couple of hours over the summer months, please give Nancy of Maria a call. Remember, no volunteers- shed will be closed and the end result will be higher registration fees.
Closing Day
Closing day will be held on September 6, 2003 (raindate September 7th). All Star Games will be played on Closing Day. As part of the festivities, we will be having a BBQ selling hot dogs, sausage on a bun, and pop. There will be a candy table, raffles, games and more. There will be some fun things to do as well. Trophies and plaques will be given out on Closing Day. So, mark this on our calendar now, you don't want to miss it. If you can spare some time on Closing Day, please give Raveen a call. We sure could use some more volunteers!!!!!
Pre-registration for 2004
Pre-registration has been very well received over the past few years. Last year, 110 children were pre-registered for this season. To avoid the line-ups and the possibility of not getting your child in for next year, you will able to pre-register your child on August 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, September 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and closing Day. To be eligible for pre-registration, a child must have played for Quinndale the prior year. More details will be supplied at a later date. The cost is yet to be determined.
Coaches Appreciation Night
To wind down the season, we will be holding a Dance. It will be on Friday, Semptember 12th at the Hillcrest Restaurant on Concession and Upper Wentworth Street. Come out and support your coaches as they supported your children all summer. For tickets contact Raveen starting the first week of July. Tickets will also be available at the snack bar. So, gather up your friends and support your summer program. More details to follow. Watch for signs at the Candy Shed.
Donations
Do you have your own business and would like to make a donation towards our dance? Do you work for a firm of company that would like to make a donation to our dance? If so, come to the snack bar and pick up a donation request letter. We appreciate any and all donations to help make our event a success. We will be advertising all of our Sponsors and Donators. For further infomation, give Raveen or one of your Executive Members a call.
Sincerely,
Mike Idzikowski President 1 comments
